Catherine Thursby

Ypsilanti, Michigan

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan I’ve been influenced by the vibrant, liberal city I’ve grown up in. I studied metal smithing at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan where I now reside. My art is primarily driven by the nature surrounding me. Birds, flowers, and organic shapes are my primary subject matter, My paintings are a mixture of recycled materials, vintage and new papers, acrylic paints, charcoal, pencil, ink, and glue. Each piece has some hidden meaning or symbolism that is attached to an event or experience in my life. I tend to gravitate to a more lighthearted subject matter and find humor in the slightest of things which translates to my work.
In addition to my Art, I own a small shop in Ann Arbor called Red Shoes. It offers a space to sell my work and that of other local artists in the community. Community is really important to me as is keeping my shop unique and filled with items made by other artists and small design studios from across the United States and the world. Ive been featured in numerous books, magazines, and publications for my work and my shop. But mostly you will find me at home with my dogs sitting in front of the fire , laughing with my kids at the dinner table or doing a million piles of laundry.
